Marta joined Closelink’s Commercial team as a management assistant at the beginning of this year. We spoke to her about her upcoming role as well as her extensive background in the shipping industry.
What role are you taking on at Closelink?
I joined the commercial team as a management assistant to support sales and marketing activities. The platform is growing its offering of products for procurement to an increasing range of ship supplies, so I am on a mission to assist with anything needed to successfully reach the next milestones.
What drew you to the shipping industry/a maritime startup?
The shipping industry is well-known for its tradition, however it can be at times very conventional and quite resistant to change. Being part of a maritime startup is a great opportunity to continue working in this high stake environment, while challenging outdated practices and contributing to the innovation of the industry.
Tell us a little bit about your career background thus far.
I worked as a commercial management assistant at a leading shipping company for over 4 years, supporting top management with commercial operations. I have an LLM degree in maritime transport law, so from the very start my career revolved all around shipping. Before moving to the commercial side of business, I did my internships in a law firm in New York City focusing on cargo claims, and at an in-house legal team in Monaco assisting with ship financing.
What excites you about your new position?
Pretty much everything about it! Working with such a talented and dedicated team, contributing to the acceleration of Closelink’s growth, making an impact on the industry I value – these would be my TOP 3.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I am lucky to live close to the mountains and right by the Mediterranean, so I like spending my weekends outdoors. Summers are mostly for hiking and boat trips, and winter is usually a snowboard season for me.
